Lens Filter/Cover

Sometimes I want to use the camera without the water-tight case. I want to protect the lens from scratches which would make the camera unusable.

Please suggest a filter adapter/ filter/ filter cover; or some better solution. Thanks.

you want a UV filter, theyre just really lens protectors

Okay, I see uv and other filters offered for these cameras. Many, of course, are for use on the outside of the waterproof housing. However, my interest is using the camera without waterproof housing. I see filters sized 37mm and 52mm, among others.

Question:
Will a 37mm filter work without issue or will this size cast hardware, shadow,/ or other anomaly on videos and pictures? Why might one use a 52mm filter?

Will a uv filter effect the camera's automatic exposure?

Any other issues I should be aware of?

I did a vignetting test with the 37mm and it's visible on 2160p / 1440p 4:3 / 1080p. Only by enabling gyro or selecting narrow angle will eliminate the effect:

Thanks, TechTronic9000, for the review of the 37mm filter. Could you please provide a link to the item?

Also, if there is a larger filter set, such as maybe 52mm, maybe the vignetting could be eliminated. What do you think?

The 37mm CPL was bought from DX.com search for SKU: 275862
With a 52 mm i think that there will be no problem.

Thanks TechTronic9000. I went ahead and ordered both the 37 and 52mm uv kits including adapter, filter, and cover from DX. I'll post my learnings after testing.

Looking forward, I'm currently searching for a 58mm adapter...which is way bigger, but I have a good lens kit for that (CPL, UV, Gradual ND). Although i doubt that someone will want a huge lens on a small cam.

It doesn't look wide enough to prevent vignetting but I'm not sure if it's ok because the filter sits so close to the actual camera lens. It isn't like a normal filter that has an outer rim.

That one is a little bigger, need to put some paper inside.
