Hi,

I have asked this question of Gitup several days ago via their Contact page but no answer so asking here to see if anyone can help or has knowledge.

I was going to by a cheap SJ4000 but came across the review on Techmoan of the Git2 Pro and I decided I now wanted to have the Git2.
I would like to remove the UV/IR filter to make the camera FULL SPECTRUM. I have see some youtube clips of people taking other similar cameras (sj4000 etc) apart but before splashing my cash on a Git2 I would like to know if it is possible. So can the lens be unscrewed if I take the camera apart as per the Git2 teardown video on Gitup's Site & Twitter feed.

If above not easily achievable I have asked Gitup if they would be able to supply a camera off the production that would not have the UV/IR filter added to the Lens Assembly during production.

Im interested in doing the same thing, mostly to use an IR lamp and the motion detection of the git2

Yeah.

I have already brought all the bits for my home made IR Illuminators.

I am using the IR replacement broads for CCTV camera that are very cheap on eBay.
I got 5 x 850mn spectrum IR and also 3 x 940nm spectrum IR, so I would have a choice in illumination.
eg
I could use the 850nm (these have the slight red glow when on when looking at them with the naked eye) for general IR illumination or I can use 940nm which is totally invisible to the naked eye or both together.

These will all be run off a 12v 12Ah battery in my backpack.

The illuminators are mounted with the camera (Git2 if I can remove the lens) on a frame attached to my backpack, so I can get good illuminated FPV when walking around in pitch black. I will also plud the camera into a 12v-5v dc-dc converter so I will have several hours of continued use (no need to keep replacing the camera battery ever hour etc. I can then also use the camera wifi to put the camera output onto to a handheld table or old Sony Xperia phone to help me see where I am going in the pitch black.

Looking on youtube and other site, I see that the Gopro thread size in M12 and there are plenty of different lens etc and conversions. Is the Git2 lens barrel thread M12 as well? On the Git2 teardown video TechTronic9000 shows a vernier on the barrel and it's 11.87mm so it looks like it could be the standard 12 fitting. Can any confirm it's standard M12

I have to say I really do love the Git2 specs

I have managed to find some Len information that Gitup posted to the RCGroups Forums
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=33450324&postcount=465

It's an M12 thd with a .5mm pitch.

I have also ready in the same thread that the lens is removable as they are discussing swapping out the 170deg lens for a 94deg lens. so all seems good. And there are plenty of lens chioices on Amazon and the eBay, yes I know the quality will be different but sometimes.

I still have not heard any infomation from my questions to Gitup on the cost of a replacement lens.

I am not looking forward to breaking the UV/IR filter off the lens, so looking to get another lens to do it with, so I will have 2 good lenses (one with and one without UV/IR Filter) so I can still use the camera in both situations.

If Gitup do not answer then I shall have to pop onto ebay and get a few cheap M12 lens instead.

So do you mean you need another Git2 standard lens? It is easy to remove the IR filter from the lens.

It's easy to remove you say, that is good as I was half expecting it to be glued in strongly and having to break it and prise it off.

I don't want to take mine apart just yet as I don't have a clean enought enviroment in my hobby workshop as I have been sanding lots of fine wood recently and the place need a good clean

How is the UV/IR filter attached to the lens. Screw thread, Glue or friction fit?

Also just how much is a replacement lens? as it still might be better with 2 good lenses. (one with and one without filter)

PS, I do really like this camera

Thanks

Hi, any chance of a reply to the cost of a new lens. If you don't reply I'll have to spend my money else where.

Oh Trouble!!!

My little test SJ4000 clones I have been playing with to build up the confidence of doing it to Git2 has taken a bit of a dive.

I have now taken the 2 SJ4000 lenses apart (non-fixable) to find the IR filter is actually buried between the various lens elements, so I am hoping this is not the same for the Git2

I then tried and ordered 2 replacement lenses (170deg ) from an ebay dealer, these had no IR Filter , so just plain lenes, however I can not get focus with these. I was hoping that it it worked well on the SJ4000 clones then I could use the same lens on the Git2 so I did not have to "did" the IR filter out.

Gitup still have not responded (here in these forums or via email) to the cost of an original 170deg lens and I still do not know where the IR filter is in the Git2 lens assembly.

I am hoping for TechTronic9000 can get me a photo of the rear of the lens later. I am hoping that the IR filter is the last element and easily removable and not embedded in the lens assembly between elements.

Maybe if the original 170deg is not able to removeable IR filter could Gitup PM me with the name of the manufacture of the lens assembly and I can not them to see if I could get a non-ir filter lens

Cheers..

Wonderful photo that shows the IR Cut Filter as a separate piece just glued to the bottom of the Lens Assembly, so easily removable..

Gitup, I have sent a direct PM to you, now from the photo above you can ignore Question 1 but I would still like to know if a new 170deg Original Lens can be purchased and how much. Thanks

I have taken the Gitup2 apart (There was alot of glue all round the lens barrel) and put in an 170deg 2.1mm F1.6 Lens I got off ebay.

I was going to break the IR-filter off the Gitup lens but decided to try one of the 170deg 2.1mm F1.6 Lenses I got off ebay for my SJ4000 Clones

Here is a comparrison from 2 video I have just taken.

Left photo is Stock Gitup2 Lens and on the right is the eBay Lens
View media item 2
The reason for pink is the extra IR light the sensor is picking up.

General Role is going to be my POV for night time "Paranormal" (No sniggering now) investigations, so the Git2 is going to be attached to a "custom backpack" I am making.

I have already made the IR illuminators at 850nm and 940nm that will attached to the backpack.
