Just do more test and after recording a video the sound actualy appears on right side, using vlc i changed to left and then the audio was on both side. Anyone repporting same problem?

I know this post is late from you question, but I am using an external mic and am getting sound from all 5.1 channels. The surround satellite speakers have very low volume.

I would think the same as you (although mine was bought on ebay). I think the 5.1 is just the sound card taking a stereo signal and outputting it in surround. For diagnostic purposes, I transferred the video file to my laptop and it did output in stereo.

Now that I am more awake today, I looked at the properties of the original file and it is showing mono, not stereo. I imagine my sound cards are just up-scaling it.

It will automatically detect the external MCI, no extra settings for external MIC.

Hey guys I just bought a GoPro 3.5mm Mic Adapter(GoPro OFFICIAL ACCESSORY) and have a Vivitar Professional Directional Condenser Shotgun Microphone and still not getting any sound, I got the same problem with the Movo GMA100 3.5mm Female Microphone Adapter Cable to fit the GoPro HERO3, HERO3+ & HERO4 , there's no sound on my videos, and I'm wondering if my git2 is broken or something because no adapter work's, I already try the vivitar mic with my iphone and work's perfectly, so dont know what is the problem!! HELP :( by the way I had try both way, firt plugging in before start recording and when I had start recording!!

You should connect the MIC before turning on the camera. Also, you will want to check to make sure the setting for the mic volume is not set to mute. To get to this setting, turn on the camera, single quick press of the wifi button, power button to move to the mic option, shutter button to change setting, and quick press of the wifi button to exit the menu.

I am having the same issue. Got a external mic adapter that goes from a mini-jack to USB. Checked the mic level; it's set to medium. Only getting the internal mic....any ideas?

So I have done more research and here is what I found. Adapters that do not have built is resistor on the pins related to the mic do not work with this camera. You will need to either splice and wire in your own resistor to your adapter or you will need to by a USB Mic.
