Hello to everyone,
I'm Luca, from Italy, I've just received my GIT2 from some days; I've bought it after sending back to Amazon my Xiaomi Yi because of too many bugs which led me in considering the Yi Camera a very awful action cam.
My first impressions on the GIT2 are really good, it's an awesome camera with so many settings which give to the camera an enormous potential, I'm definitely in love with it.

I'm just sorry to say there are still some little things which i'm not really satisfied in it, I'd like to know if i'm doing something wrong or they're just unresolved bugs :

Gitup GIT2 Pro, Firmware v.1.2_1224, Windows 7 Professional

1) The camera has a LOT of warm pixels, I've counted up to 13, i didn't resolved using high ISO (e.g.50), they still appears in low light conditions, making the video look dirty, as some light spots covering the image (screenshot from a video in the dark attached to this post). My previous Xiaomi Yi had the same sensor, I've just thought the Gitup buy cheaper low quality Exmor sensors to low the price. May I solve the problem to make that light spots less visible?

2) Does the camera have an option to rotate the video upside down while recording? The Xiaomi does for using it as dashcam.

3) In time lapse mode, the leds and the red dot indicator on the LCD keep flashing NOT 1 second ON/1 second OFF, but 1 video second ON/1 video second OFF; e.g. if I made a lapse where 1s correspond to 1 real minute, the Led blinks 1 minute on/1 minute off. I ruined a lot of time lapses because i thought the camera was not recording because had no indicators on (both on the screen and the leds).
I think this is a little bug.
About the slow motion, let me explain it better:
if I choose 4x, it automatically record at 720p/120FPS, and it work smoothly; if I choose 8x, it record at VGA/30FPS, and the video it's quite blocky; i think it should be recorded at least at 240FPS, but I can't change this setting because no matter what video size I set in the relative menù item, the slow motion setting automatically overwrite it at VGA/30FPS making it useless.
  • 2x - 720P30
  • 4x - 720P30
  • 8x - VGAP30
4) If I select Slow motion mode, e.g. 8x,it records on VGA/30FPS loosing no matter which kind of video mode/speed I select, since it's used low FPS the video flaunces, not smooth at all. Why not use higher FPS? Why can't I select the video size\speed which I like?

4) Using as PC CAMERA, on my pc shows 2 webcam ("DEMO1", and "DEMO1") and 2 microphones ("DEMO1", and "DEMO1") . Why two? Btw the real problem is that the webcam is really unstable: it always crashed and I have to reconnect it every time before using it. Skype doesn't recognize it, Hangout does but It don't work if I use it to receive call, it just crashes and disconnect as I answer the call...I just can use it to send a call, after setting it up. Do you have more stable drivers for the camera? Why there are 2 couples of devices instead one?

5) The camera, connected to the computer, after selecting "MASS STORAGE", it's recognize immediately (in device list) but the folder take every time more than a minute to show up on my PC (even if drivers are previously installed, so the problem is not the installation which I previously did). Too way much. How can I lower the time it need to connect?

6) I have no audio output of the video in playback mode, neither when I playback a video on the camera, neither when I connect it on a tv via HDMI cable, the only way to listen to the video's audio is downloading the video on my pc ; am I doing something wrong or it just can't do this?

SOLVED IN V1.3 FIRMWARE
7) Using with the remote controller, to take a photo, it needs a click if i'm already in photo mode, two clicks if I'm in another modes (one for select the mode, and another one to take the picture). The same for record a video. The problem is that I try to guess the status mode of the camera from the front leds the problem is that the video mode has a red led the same way as Settings mode and Playback mode has. There is a way where i can just take a picture/video pressing just once?

8) I'd really need more options in time lapse mode, expecially between 1 and 5 second per frame. It taked a really big difference in that interval.

ANSWERED
9) What's the Custom Text Stamp?
You can add a custom text over the video, like a nickname, or the place where you are filming, etc. It works similar to the license plate number
10) When the gitup app will be available? The FINALCAM one keep crashing on my table. Really awful app.

ANSWERED
11) There is a way to stop recording automatically when the video is started by the G sensor or movement sensor? Set this way the recording goes indefinitely.
I just did some other testing, Auto power off to 30 min, screen shutdown to 1 min, and it will capture 1min video after a movement detected, as many times it happens in 30 min, then it will shut down. It just works perfect. The only problem is that it works only in movement sensor mode, in G sensor mode it don't work, for this reason when u set G mode on it automatically set the loop recording. :/
Thanks for everyone will help me, I do really love this camera this is why I would to keep it working perfectly :)

2) will never be possible which is why cage is supplied
4) its using the vga/120f/s to make up the video, and also will be a bit blocky, recommend 4x instead

4) i get similar issues, however in mass storage appeared immediately

10) soon, gitup try to perfect things before release

Hello Alistair, and thanks for your answers,
2) will never be possible which is why cage is supplied
why turning a video upside down would be so tricky for a camera?

4) its using the vga/120f/s to make up the video, and also will be a bit blocky, recommend 4x instead

Are you a Windows user? Which OS?

10) soon, gitup try to perfect things before release
Finger crossed for the app, i've heard about people waiting for quite a long time about it, and still waiting, gitup is keeping in delaying the publication.

Thanks again for your reply :)

Windows7 home, its a novatek thing, with ambarella on sj5000+, the pc camera didnt work at all, sometimes i have to plug and unplug for pc camera to be found. when using pc camera and mass storage on android with otg, its instant.

Re the app, it is almost ready, they just want to avoid negative feedback by releasing too early when finalcam sortof works.

re upside down i believe its a novatek issue with that chipset, so they wont be able to add it in to the firmware.

I have already Git2 and the Wrist RC. I wish could be the camera, power start, with the Wrist RC. If this ultimately is impossible, then perhaps you could add a function in "Auto Power off" section (like Stand By) in order to have low energy and you can power on with the Wrist RC or the upcoming app.

the functions of the wrist RC are going to be improved in future updates, that would be usefull, in the mean time having the screen turn off and camera connected to a large usb battery pack might help

1) The camera has a LOT of warm pixels, I've counted up to 13, i didn't resolved using high ISO (e.g.50), they still appears in low light conditions, making the video look dirty, as some light spots covering the image (screenshot from a video in the dark attached to this post). It will be soon corrected with the aid of a new firmware

2) Does the camera have an option to rotate the video upside down while recording? The Xiaomi does for using it as dashcam.
Not yet as it's related to the Sony IMX 206 sensor which currently does not support this.

Are you useing manual exposure ? If yes, it's normal for the camera to do a 1S picture but it will need about 2 seconds to process it.

4) If I select Slow motion mode, e.g. 8x,it records on VGA/30FPS loosing no matter which kind of video mode/speed I select, since it's used low FPS the video flaunces, not smooth at all. Why not use higher FPS? Why can't I select the video size\speed which I like?
The slow motion works like this
-4X = 720p@120fps / 4 = 30 fps with 4 times slower speed. You also need a lot more light for 120 and 240 fps. The 240 fps (-8X) mode will also be improved in a newer version of firmware.

It's definitely related to Windows and drivers

5) The camera, connected to the computer, after selecting "MASS STORAGE", it's recognize immediately (in device list) but the folder take every time more than a minute to show up on my PC (even if drivers are previously installed, so the problem is not the installation which I previously did). Too way much. How can I lower the time it need to connect?
Try another USB cable, it can be also an issue with your computer (Windows)

6) I have no audio output of the video in playback mode, neither when I playback a video on the camera, neither when I connect it on a tv via HDMI cable, the only way to listen to the video's audio is downloading the video on my pc ; am I doing something wrong or it just can't do this?
The camera does not have an internal speaker so it has no audio during playback.

The remote usage will be greatly improved soon to avoid the problems you describe.

8) I'd really need more options in time lapse mode, expecially between 1 and 5 second per frame. It taked a really big difference in that interval.
@gitup will see this and if he considers that it's OK, maybe he will add the options.

9) What's the Custom Text Stamp?
You can add a custom text over the video, like a nickname, or the place where you are filming, etc. It works similar to the license plate number.

10) When the gitup app will be available? The FINALCAM one keep crashing on my table. Really awful app.
The official app is still in development, Try also FN Cam.

11) There is a way to stop recording automatically when the video is started by the G sensor or movement sensor? Set this way the recording goes indefinitely.
You have an option to stop recording after shutting down power, maybe that works too, I have never tried it.

Thanks for everyone will help me, I do really love this camera this is why I would to keep it working perfectly :)

Se answers in GREEN
Thanks for having the patience to answer all my question.

Today the Gitup released the V1.3 firmware, that solved partially some issues,
green - solved
orange - known issue, gitup working on it, hope they will find a solution
red - not solved

1) warm pixel - can't wait to see an update that solve as the SJCAM does, with a dark field frame that act as a mask for warm pixels.
2) rotating the video, I've read this answer previously on dashcamtalk, just wondering why the rotation can't be done via software.
3) led blinking - your consideration seems appropriate but no, i'ts all set on auto mode and video time lapse, the led blinks exactly 1 second on and 1 second off depending on real video second, in time lapse mode if 1 second of video correspond to 10 real minutes, the led will blink 10 min on and 10 min off.
4) slow motion mode - yeah I misinterpreted the function, the output video has necessarily to be 30fps at 8x, the my question was: why don't record at 240? It seems to do right that, since 240/8=30. The problem actually is that the output video is still blocky, make a 30fps looking like a 5fps (or slower).
4b) webcam mode and 5) slow connection in mass memory mode - exactly, tryed many cables, always the same, I was just wondering if the gitup will release more stable drivers than the windows ones. For mass memory mode, connecting to an android tv it just work fine.
6) no audio playback on tv - uhm that's pity, this way you can't use tv to playback videos with audio if you haven't an usb port on it. The xiaomi yi did it! :D
7) remote control - yea, today's update fixed this issue, one very little bug is that if u enable quick mode, to start a video you click on video button on the remote, but...to stop recording you have to press on Power off button!!! Hehehe, in normal mode (not quick one), to stop a video you can just press video button again. Anyway not a problem, great update for this issue!
8) options in time lapse mode - i'd really wish they will add at least 2 and 3 sec/frame, because they're crucial to me when making lapses, e.g. 2sec/frame make you record a video where 1 second correspond to a minute.
9) custom stamp - yes, just saw a guide how to enable it
10) gitup app - hope they will release it soon, i've hear about people waiting for months when the gitup announced they would have been releasing it in some weeks.
11) auto stop recording in motion detection mode - heheh your hint was perfect, [ if you set the "auto power off" mode in 1 min, it will stop recording after 1 min then shut down after another min, it works but it's totally useless since the motion detections is useful in situation like leaving it somewhere (es. trail cameras for wildlife recording), and you want to record ONLY when something moves for a very long time, so if you leave it somewhere, it will work max 3 minute (59 min wait, 1 min recording, 1 min shut down). Or, without auto power off mode, it will stays turned on forever, and start recording forever (up to when uSD it's full). ] I just did some other testing, Auto power off to 30 min, screen shutdown to 1 min, and it will capture 1min video after a movement detected, as many times it happens in 30 min, then it will shut down. It just works perfect.

Thanks for all the answers, I'll just wait the Gitup team will solve soon those little issues, warm pixel expecially, the other ones are just little suggestion I made to have a better quality camera.
Have a nice day,
Luca

2) maybe GitUp will find a workaround, but help is needed from Novatek
3) Now I understand, I don't think they thought of synchronizing the LED with activity.
4/5) Mine connects instantly to Windows 7 and Windows 8, default windows drivers, I have never installed anything else.
11) I haven't tried but maybe it works with loop recording 3 minutes / 5 minutes segments ? otherwise well report this to GitUp.

Thank you TechTronic,
I just did some other testing, Auto power off to 30 min, screen shutdown to 1 min, and it will capture 1min video after a movement detected, as many times it happens in 30 min, then it will shut down. It just works perfect, thanks for the hint. The only problem is that in G sensor mode it don't work, for this reason when u set G mode on it automatically set the loop recording. :/

Tried the camera on another pc, it works fine, connecting very quickly.
Onto my main pc, once connected, in peripherals it shows instantaneously "NOVATEKN vt-DSC" (under disks) and "USB archiviation peripheral" (sorry about the translation I don't know the exact english name since i'm translating from Italian); it just need some minutes more to show up under "portable units" as a logical drive thus making it accessible from Root Explorer. I tried to load and unload drivers but it still takes eages to connect (2-3 mins).

Also testing on slow motions, i just made a mistakes about FPS, it OBVIOUSLY, in 8x, have to make an output video at 30FPS, the problem is that not always the camera register in high FPS, sometimes the video output is smooth sometimes is blocky. I don't know why it's behaving like this, I just click on slow motion 8x then I record the video. Tried many environments, low light, excellent light, all kind of settings, i can't understand what's causing the camera to record once in a smooth way, once in a blocky one. :(

I asked GITUP to answer my post trought Facebook and mail, they're still silent.
A great thank you for your support!

@Cinghiale
The G sensors is mostly used for "locking" a file when the camera is used as a dash cam, probably @gitup didn't thought of using it as an "alarm" activate on shock, record for a period and the standby again. Your suggestion is good to have a timer to turn off recording when it's triggered by the G sensor. Also gitup si aware of the slow video and it will be improved with another firmware release. Now in China almost all activity stops as they celebrate the Chinese New Year, The Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival so they may respond later.

Why engmode not working for hot pixels same as for sjcams ? Sharpness is horrible :(....
On the video this process with engmode it took 20 sec on sjcam, on my gitup git2 it took maybe 5 mins, same HW, what the hell ? Why so slow ? (Not working)

Re 4b and 5 above, mine works fine, however certain usb ports can affect the driver installation, try a different port, and possibly with other usb devices unplugged.
As its a native feature in novatek, gitup wont really be able to do much about it.

It's not currently implemented, you can check that in the firmware release notes, it doesn't mention any remapping.

Worst video in 720p 120fps what i ever seen. Connector for mini usb is too sensitive, and has a problem with data speed, sometimes i must plugin/out to catch a right transfer speed what is disgusting. Video quality is vs Xiaomi vs SJ5000x Elite is just.... i have no words for that...

@spasi you'd better add a video to demonstrate this. Also try another USB cable !

Here's a 120fps sample and for 720p and compressed by YouTube it does look very good !

I have similar problems with my git2. Plus a lot of issues with recording quality and live AV out for FPV, big lag etc. Maybe there are som knock off cameras in circulation? It seems that most are OK but maybe retailers are feeding knock offs into the system? For example whatever changes I make to the recording set up, frame rate, exposure, etc etc, the recorded output is the same and so is the live output.

You think that looks good? It's out of focus for a start plus the fish eye distortion is shocking. The möbius v1 is better
