Hi all,

I have just purchased 2 of the Git2 cameras so now got to wait for a long delivery time now, as they are coming from Singapore.

Anyway got a couple of questions and maybe firmware enhancements.

So I purchased these cameras the primary purpose will be used as Dashcam for my beloved car.

I have been reading up on these cameras and noticed you have 2 selectable FOV options 170 or 120. Could there be another option added for 150?

Also I have also read up re the barrel affect when using 170 FOV, I noticed on some other action cams, that there is an option on the firmware to tell the camera to "remove fish-eye".

Also I know its primary purpose is an action cam, but will there be any enhancements for added features for car mode, like parking mode?

is this something something the could be confided for a new firmware update?

Many thanks

Glyn

Hi
I use mine as a dashcam every day, really you want the fisheye and 170 degree, ive found it usefull as dashcam to have such a wide angle
the small FOV just crops the image, its not much point.

What do you mean by parking mode?

Hi,

Its good to have a wide angle view of 170, but I am not sure what benefits the fish eye add? is there a way to record say 150 but without the fish eye effect

Parking mode basically is when the car ignition is turned off, the camera stops constantly recording and only records motion detected events

the worst fisheye will be in the outer 20 degrees, but sometimes ive wanted to see things in the periphery that used to get missed when i used to use a phone as a dashcam

is the reason to want narrow fov just to save sdcard space?

parking mode may be able to be achieved by setting the auto turn off to 30 mins and enable motion detection

space not going to be an issue, going to be using 128gb sd card. :)

The setup I am going to use is the following record:-

Gyro On
record at resolution 2560 x 1440 30fps

i was hoping at this resolution I would not need the fish eye effect as It should be able to capture all of the area, I just find the barrel effect quite strange, especially when playing back the videos.

Is the motion detection any good on the camera, Also while I think about it another handy feature would be pre-recording buffer, As an example if motion detection does record an incident, it also records 30 seconds before the incident, therefore you can see the event as it actually happens.

Also are you happy with the Cam as a dashcamera, is there any other settings i should be using to get the most out it.

Thanks

Enable gyro as that helps, that will also remove some fisheye as it crops the image
enable g sensor lock, locks video in case of crash

ive reviewed quite a few "incidents" already, performs much better as dashcam than does my SJ5000+, ive never had it overheat or lockup

ive used motiond etection a few times, seems fine
thing is, for a buffer, it would be 30s of nothing happening as by definition when it starts recording its because their is motion, but yes a small buffer might be usefull

because of the lens curvature, you wont be able to get full resolution without some fisheye, you can buy a replacement 90 degree lens from their store

For parking guard, maybe you can think about to use the hardwire kits.

For dashcam usage, a wide FOV is OK, but if you really don't like the fisheye effect, maybe you can think about the 90° lens version, no distortion, mainly used for FPV.

Thanks Alistair will defiantly stick to the wider angle lens, 90 degree to narrow, to be honest I never use the g senor lock on dashcam, on UK roads going over potholes would set the trigger of, not unless the g shock sensor on the Git2 is better than the other dashcams. Otherwise all my video will get locked and there will be no room for the loop recordings.

for my hardwired solution I use this device, takes away the strain on the car battery.

http://www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/cellink-battery-b-pack-review

takes 45 mins to fully charge and can run 2 cameras for a minimum of 12 hours non stop recording. Cellink device is hardwired dto the car ACC, a win win solution.
